So, what exactly does a producer do? The short answer: they make things happen.

Meredith told us, “The role is to facilitate the team by removing physical, monetary or bureaucratic limits on a creative act and, if lucky, you gain the trust of your client and are invited to the creative process where you may listen and learn.”
She is in an independent creative producer committed to combining talent and experience to present artist-focused, aesthetically exceptional, boundary breaking performance through partnerships, active relationship management, detailed rigor, and honest care. Meredith will sit down for a discussion with MAP Fund Program Director Moira Brennan on themes and trends affecting artists working in the performing arts as a part of our Conversations Inside series. We caught up with Meredith & crew back in April to get a rundown of what a few days in the life of an independent producer does in the performing arts.
SUNDAY
Meredith visited Austin TX to finish out Luciana Achugar’s amazing tour at Fusebox Festival.

MONDAY
After a few morning meetings with presenters and colleagues in Austin, Meredith took an afternoon flight back to NYC. We had two load-ins on the same day, one for David Neumann at Abrons Art Center and the other at Danspace Project with Katie Workum. Meanwhile we continued prep on the forthcoming shows of Sibyl Kempson, Emily Johnson and Kimberly Bartosik.
At the Abrons with the Creative Team Tei Blow, Chloe Brown, Mimi Lien, David Neumann, Christine Schallenberg:

Meredith decided to omit the photo evidence of her hunched over spreadsheets, grant proposals and time tables but she assures us it was a fair amount of fun. It takes a ton of people to get a show up and running. Not pictured are the many presenter colleagues who also deeply facilitated these productions along with their teams.
