Artist Residencies Opportunities With April-May Deadlines


Sorting through all the residency and grant opportunities for the gems can be a full time job. That’s why every month Creative Capital dedicates some time to doing it for you. Here’s a list of opportunities with upcoming deadlines to give you time, space and money to get your work done!
 
Borgo del Sole Residency 
Lucca, Tuscany, Italy
Deadline: April 25, 2017
For the price of only 20 euros a day, the Borge del Sole residency offers a beautiful alternative space in the heart of Tuscany. The accommodation has 24 hour access to workspaces, workshops and swimming pool. Bonus: free access to classes in cheese making, cooking, meditation and candles lessons. Click here to apply.


Old School Art Residency
Gorna Lipnitsa, Bulgaria
Deadline: April 30, 2017
In the old village of Gorna Lipnitsa in Bulgaria, a former school houses several artists from different nations with the hopes of creating work together. This year’s residency theme at the Old School is “The Road.” The artists will have the opportunity to experiment and cross distances from one ancient Roman road which once went through the region beginning from the ancient village through the Roman town Nikopolis ad Istrum. Open Spaces Contemporary Art Residency
Feutersoey, Swiss Alps, Switzerland
Deadline: April 30, 2017
Situated in the village centre in a former school building, the residency program has a high local profile and provides a high-visibility cultural centre-point for the village and for the region. Resident artists will help  organize a workshop or other event that involves the community in some way.  There will also be a show of the artist’s work at the end of the three month residency. The residency is free to all visual artists and comes with workspace and accommodation. Click here to apply.


Elsewhere Studios Residency Program
Paonia, Colorado
Deadline: May 1, 2017
Elsewhere Studios provides space and time for artists to create in a unique and supportive environment. Paonia is a small town nestled in a beautiful landscape of mountains and mesas covered with orchards, small ranches, and farms. Paonia is a community of unique and creative individuals with a strong interest in sustainability. The residency  provides studio space and a $250 stipend. Click here to apply.


Cow House Studios
Wexford, Ireland
Deadline: May 14, 2017
Through structured conversations, readings, and site explorations residents will articulate different methods for aesthetically “mapping” the historical and contemporary context of Irish relations with global and social systems of power. The 6 week residency includes access to accommodation, studio space, meals and transportation to surrounding environs. It concludes with an exhibition of work. Click here to apply.


Indigenous Designer in Residence
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Deadline: May 15, 2017
The School of Art at the University of Manitoba is offering a six-month, paid residency for an Indigenous Designer, whose work invites interdisciplinary, critical, and speculative challenges to dominant practices in design. Cost of living, studio, sessional salary, administrative support and access to all School of Art facilities are provided. Click here to apply.


Arts Writers Grant Program Open Application
Deadline: May 17, 2017

The Creative Capital | Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant supports writers whose work addresses contemporary visual art. The program issues awards directly to individual authors for articles, blogs, books, new and alternative media, and short-form writing projects. It supports a broad spectrum of writing on contemporary visual art, from general-audience criticism to academic scholarship. Click here to apply.

Seminar: Denniston Hill
Woodridge, New York
Deadline: May 19, 2017
Seminar: Denniston Hill is currently accepting applications from emerging performance-based artists. The workshop-residency includes shared rooms, one home-cooked meal per day, breakfast and lunch supplies, and a modest stipend for materials or travel.
